Chelsea have completed a deal to sign midfielder Mathis Amougou from Saint-Etienne, the Blues have announced.

WHAT HAPPENED?
On Tuesday, Chelsea announced the signing of Amougou from Saint-Etienne on a staggering eight-year contract. The 19-year-old is reported to have cost around £12 million ($15m) and he is expected to go into the club's first-team squad.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Per the Standard, the Blues view a potential loan to Strasbourg next season as an option for the youngster. Amougou has won seven caps for France's Under-19 side and made a total of 19 first-team appearances for Saint-Etienne before his move.

Amougou told Chelsea's website: “I'm very happy. It's an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea.
“They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.”
